Stop 2 - Slocum Gore Store

As seen from the balcony of the Murphy Building looking east, the major building in the center of the frame is the Slocum Gore Store. Built in 1902, it burned in 1909 and was replaced by the cinder block building that now houses the Fair Oaks Brew Pub. Over the years the building has housed the Rexall Drug Store, a pool hall, Killam's Department Store, various doctor's offices and a health food store. You can see the first Fair Oaks Bank mostly hidden from view behind the tree. The Fair Oaks School, built in 1903, now the Community Clubhouse, is in the background.
